Downtown Amesbury granted additional liquore licenses

The Legislature has passed H. 4583, legislation that will grant the City of Amesbury two additional liquor licenses, State Representative Michael A. Costello announced.

One of the licenses will be granted to the Roobar, located at 36 Main Street. The second license may be granted to any establishment in a commercially-zoned area by the liquor commission. Read more...

Mike Costello changes the name of DMR
The title of the Department of Mental Retardation will be changed through a provision of the state budget passed today by the Legislature. The new name will be the Department of Developmental Services.

Representative Michael A. Costello, a longtime proponent of the change, praised the move as an empowering action for one of the state’s most vulnerable populations. Read more...

Senator Steven A. Baddour and Representative Michael A. Costello praised the state budget passed by the Legislature today for providing critical support for the state’s children and families, and for making strategic investments in economic development.

The budget will fund several new initiatives including: programming and activities of Newburyport Youth Services, the Salisbury Partnership Maritime Festival and a Reserve Police Officer Training Academy in Essex County. Read more...

Michael E. Festa, the Secretary of Elder Affairs, will visit the Amesbury Senior Center Friday, June 27. He will be joined by State Representative Michael A. Costello.

Festa is visiting communities around the state as part of his “Community Connections Tour,” an effort to update the elderly on important issues facing their community and to engage them face to face. Festa, the former State Representative from Melrose, was named Secretary of Elder Affairs in October by Governor Deval Patrick. Read more...

The Deer Island Bridge in Newburyport
Three local transportation projects have received funding in the Transportation Bond Bill, passed unanimously by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Representative Michael A. Costello announced.

In total, $1.4 million will be spent on two projects in Amesbury and one in Newburyport. In Amesbury, the House allocated $300,000 for enhanced lighting and streetscape improvements around the 1st Lt. Derek Hines Bridge and Deer Island, and $400,000 for interior build out at the new Merrimack Valley Regional Transportation Authority’s transportation center. An additional $700,000 will be spent for the realignment Spofford Street, Moseley Avenue and Merrimac Street in Newburyport. Read more...
