BOSTON – Senator Steven A. Baddour and Representative Michael A. Costello announced support for several local organizations and programs in the state budget approved today by the Legislature.
More than $800,000 in state funds will be directed toward programs and organizations in Newburyport, Amesbury and Salisbury under the spending plan.
“These organizations provide vital services and vital support to so many people,” said Representative Michael A. Costello. “I remain committed to supporting them through the budget because I know they are the lifeblood of my district. I want to thank Senator Baddour for all his hard work during the budget process. Our collaboration has resulted in securing this support.”
Items that will be funded through the budget include:
Newburyport YWCA - $100,000
Our Neighbor’s Table - $25,000
Newburyport Jumpstart Funding for Economic Development - $40,000
Pettengill House - $75,000
C-10 Monitoring, Phase 2 - $75,000
Flood Control on Blackwater River - $75,000
Boys and Girls Club of Lower Merrimack Valley - $100,000
Newburyport Shellfish Purification Plant - $333,333
Salisbury Chamber of Commerce - $50,000
The budget also mandates that the Department of Conservation and Recreation develop a short-term and long-term management plan to control erosion on Salisbury Beach.
“This is something we hear about all the time, that we need a plan to manage the beach,” said Rep. Costello. “This language mandates that the plan be developed and reported to the Legislature within 90 days.”
