Costello Named Vice Chair of National Criminal Justice Committee

BOSTON – State Representative Michael A. Costello has been named the Vice Chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures Standing Committee on Law and Criminal Justice. The committee addresses both national and state policy related to capital punishment, corrections, crime victims, drug crime, juvenile justice, law enforcement, probation and parole, and criminal sentencing. Representative Jerry Madden of Texas is the committee’s chair. “I am honored to serve in this capacity and to learn from fellow legislators like Chairman Madden, who has great work on corrections reform in Texas,” Representative Costello said. “It’s a great opportunity to learn best practices from other states, to discuss policy issues and to collaborate on important issues that affect all states.” Representative Costello will be traveling to Washington DC on April 10 in order to participate in NCSL’s Spring Forum. The forum will include: • A meeting with Gil Kerlikowske, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, who will brief committee members on President Obama’s recently-released drug control strategy.
