This year marks the fifth consecutive in which the state has supported the nonprofit organization, which serves meals to people in and around Amesbury. The food pantry and meals program is funded through a program to provide assistance to homeless veterans.
“Because this was an extremely difficult budget year, it was important to try to preserve fundamental priorities and Our Neighbor’s Table was one of mine,” said Representative Costello. “Because of the hard work of so many dedicated volunteers, Our Neighbor’s Table has a tremendously positive impact on the community of Amesbury and the surrounding areas. During times like these, we need these vital social institutions the most.”
Our Neighbor’s Table is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The organization serves almost 30,000 meals each year and delivers groceries to more than 20,000 households.
“As the only source of public funding, the veteran’s grant helps fill a special gap at Our Neighbor’s Table,” said Lyndsey Haight, Executive Director. “We estimate that veterans and their families account for 25% of the total population we serve if not more.”
“Because the private businesses and citizens in and around Amesbury have been very generous with their time and resources, we are able to provide food, through our Pantry and Meals Program, at an average cost of $1 to $2 per person. We feel this is a great bargain for the Commonwealth. We are grateful to Representative Costello and the entire Legislature for their ongoing support.”
